Taking Inventory: Corrupted Beacon

We’re all familiar with beacons, right? A block created from glass, obsidian, and a Nether star which can dramatically boost the power of players within a given range, as well as projecting an enormous laser beam far into the sky. It’s one of the biggest boosts you can build for your base, and yes – that was too many words beginning with B used in a row!

But! (There’s another B-word for you) – have you ever thought about taking that laser and aiming it at your foes instead of the clouds? Surely concentrating the beacon’s energy on a swarm of mobs would blast them into submission? That’s not something you can do in Minecraft, but in Minecraft Dungeons? All bets are off. Allow me to introduce you to the Corrupted Beacon artifact.

It’s not totally clear how this beacon got corrupted – I would bet a lot of money that it’s something to do with the Arch-Illager and the Orb of Dominance. But that doesn’t really matter. What matters is the immense power contained within, juiced up by the souls you collect from defeated mobs.

Equip it, and when the time is right you can unleash its power to fire a beam that pierces through any living matter – dealing damage per second that increases as it grows in power. In doing so, it’ll eat 20 souls per second, meaning that you can leave it on for at least 15 seconds if you have a full soul capacity of 300 (and more if you can find some way to boost that capacity). 

The range is huge, but it can’t pass through walls, so get your aim right if you want to maximise your damage. After being toggled off, you’ll need to wait for about 2.5 seconds for it to cool down before you can switch it on again.

How do you get your hands on this monstrosity of a weapon? I’m glad you asked. It can be acquired in the Cacti Canyon, Redstone Mines, and Gale Sanctum missions at any difficulty, in Pumpkin Pastures and Treetop Tangle on Adventure difficulty, and in the End Wilds on Apocalypse difficulty. You can also grab it from the Village Merchant, Mystery Merchant, and Luxury Merchant. Quite common, it seems!

In Minecraft Legends, you’ll also spot a corrupted beacon at the Night Beacon base – where The Seer uses what looks like an Orb of Dominance to corrupt a beacon core and drain the Sun of its energy. That sounds like something you’re going to need to deal with, sooner or later. Thankfully, that one is aimed Sunward, rather than at you – but don’t underestimate its power either way!
