More mini, just as menacing

Grrrrrr! Wait, let me try that again. GRRRRRRR! Okay, maybe I should explain what I’m doing here. The new versions of hostile baby mobs are following in the teeny tiny footsteps of the baby farm mobs, baby mounts, aquatic babies, and wild babies. In anticipation of meeting these little menaces in Java snapshot today and Bedrock beta/preview very soon, I’m practicing my most fearsome noises to hopefully fend them off. I refuse to fall for their irresistibly adorable new looks, and so should you! Unless you’re in the mood to hunt down your inventory. 

Let’s take a look at these dangerously cute critters from a safe distance – and discover some slightly... noisy extras. 

Baby zombie 

As if the original version wasn’t giving players enough grief (famously so on occasion), the new baby zombie is more baby than ever but just as fast – and equally likely to ruin your day night. So keep your eyes peeled for its very specific, undead brand of cuteness and your feet ready to sprint! 

Gurgle 

Afraid of exploring deep waters? The gurgle might be a good reason to venture onto the ocean floor! Or stay even farther from it. This deceptively cute baby version of a drowned is still a high-speed threat, despite it’s less-than-hydrodynamic but totes-adorbs bobblehead. Try to resist its soggy charm or you might end up missing a good number of hearts! Pro tip for staying away: just focus on the fact that these little meanies still stomp on turtle eggs. Nawww. 

Baby husk

Head towards drier biomes and you might bump into a little baby husk with a new look – dry, fast, and chaotically cute. Unlike other hostile mobs, this baby menace can even sneak up on you during the day, so keep your head on a swivel for anything suspiciously cute while out in the desert or you might end up staring at a respawn screen. 

Baby piglin 

As if these gold-loving, tusked little snorters weren’t cute enough already riding atop their beloved hoglins, baby piglins also have a new look! They may be passive, but don’t let their floppy ears fool you into giving them gold because you won’t be getting anything in return. That’s hostile behavior in my book! 

Baby zombified piglin 

Just as zombified, even more baby-fied! These neutral Nether-dwelling cuties will simply ignore you unless you provoke them, so stare at their fresh (?) new look all you want – but get ready for an adorably chaotic fight if you provoke them! 

Baby zombie villager 

Still absurdly fast but a great deal cuter, these zombified tots’ bobbly heads and big eyes will steal your heart in more ways than one. Don’t assume their un-undead past will make them go easy on you! They may be more baby than ever, but still very much a zombie. 

Baby villager 

The passive counterpart to the chaotic baby zombie villagers, these youngsters are just casually walking through villages with new proportions that are scientifically proven to be 276% cuter than their old design. Forget adventuring – I’m going to set up base in a village and protect these kiddos even if it costs me a million inventories! Which it likely will. 

Note block: trumpet 

DOOT DOOT! Your Minecraft world is about to get louder and more melodic, because the trumpet note block is also now in testing! To make a trumpet note block, just place a note block on top of a copper block and voilà – you're now Minecrafting with fanfare! As your copper block oxidizes, the sound of the trumpet will also change slightly; as always, you can wax the copper block to keep your trumpet playing the same tune. 

Sound variants for pig, cow, cat, & chicken 

These adult farm animals already had strong personalities (and sassy eyes, in the pig’s case), but now they’ll also express them through distinct oinks, moos, meows, and clucks! Your farm will now look and sound like the delightful mishmash of adorableness that it truly is. These charming little noises are out today in Java snapshot and coming soon to Bedrock beta and preview. 

Are you ready to meet all these babies? Trust me, you’re not. But underestimating the power of a baby mob is a quintessential Minecraft mistake, so go ahead! Check out the latest testing release for your platform, get too close, and see if you can befriend them against all odds game mechanics! Just don’t hold me responsible for any losses (material or ego-related) if you’re met with hostility. 

How can I test these features? 

You can test these features by enabling snapshots for Minecraft: Java Edition, or by enabling previews/beta* for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. To install a snapshot, open up the Minecraft Launcher and enable snapshots in the "Installations" tab. To turn on an experiment in preview/beta for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition follow these instructions.
