Minecraft Live: September 2026 Recap

Published: September 26, 2026 - View official source

The fall edition of Minecraft Live just ended, but I am still seated. I need to take in all the announcements and deep dives that I just witnessed. Luckily for you, I am a writer, which means I took diligent notes throughout the entire show, just in case there’s a quiz later. Shall we review the highlights together? What a silly question, everybody loves to revise! Let’s go.

Creator Platform: lowering the barrier for new creators

As Jens Bergenström, Chief Creative Officer, so eloquently put it, our goal here at Mojang Studios is to inspire and enable new generations of Minecraft creators, and one way we’re going to do that is by removing some of the obstacles standing in your way. And I’m not talking about literal ones, like villagers blocking your doorway (they are, and forever will be, your problem). No, we’re thinking more along the lines of improving  tools and systems to make it easier to create, manage, and share your game content.

Maybe you’ve been trying to explain what Minecraft is to your Nan and instead of embroidering a phantom circling a hut on a pillow, you could create a world that she relates to. Then get started on that pillow, because that would look pretty nice on your couch!

Our vision is to lower the barrier for more players to become Minecraft creators. That’s what we mean when we talk about the creator platform. It's all about having more Minecraft in the world, thanks to the people making more Minecraft. And we’ll all keep going! Until the entire world is one big block. Whoops! I’ve given too much away, ignore that last bit. Let’s move on!

Minecraft World opens in London 2027

Daisy Mercedes, Creative Producer at Merlin Entertainments and Filip Keatley-Thoms, Creative Lead at Mojang, took a break from their lavish lifestyle of riding rollercoasters all day to give us an update on Minecraft World!

Minecraft World opens in London at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in 2027, and will have something for every type of player. Are you an explorer? Great, this place is enormous. A builder? Let me show you to the world’s first Minecraft World Hotel, where you can enjoy meals in a deep-sea diner, recharge in themed rooms, and mingle with mobs. No word on phantoms, but that’s mainly because the beds are so comfortable that sleep deprivation has yet to be an issue!

And for the true adventurers, we have something special in store. Escape the Nether is the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster! It’s both indoors and outdoors. Terrifying and thrilling. You’ll go up, down, all around, just like you do in the Nether you already know and love. Or loathe, depending on your scaredy-cat levels. Either way, don’t miss out on this wild ride!

Dungeons II is launching on September 29

The anticipated sequel to Minecraft Dungeons, aptly named Minecraft Dungeons II, is out in just two days, and we got an exclusive look at what’s to come. I was assuming this sequel would be a walk in the park, since both the Arch-Illager and the Orb of Dominance have now been defeated. But alas, Laura de Llorens, Design Director on Dungeons II, had different news in store. She walked us through the crisis the world of Dungeons is facing. Their ecosystem is out of balance and angry illagers are everywhere. They’ve even formed an Illager High Council! Yikes.

But don’t worry, all Laura needs you to do is gather your friends and save the world. Oh! No small asks there. Especially since you don’t have to fight your way through a new dimension or face new mobs. Wait, you do have to fight your way through a new dimension and face new mobs? Laura. There better be some good loot. There is? Well. That’s me sold!

This new dimension is called the Sift, and it lives in the new, interconnected Dungeons world that Art Director Ullis Linder and Game Director Måns Olson showed off. Where in the first game your missions were level-based, Dungeons II introduces an interconnected world. And jumping! Hooray! That will come in handy as there are lots of rifts that appear throughout the world. If you do stumble across and then into one, it will transport you to the Sift.

The Sift is beautiful, vibrant, and teeming with souls. It’s also the first dimension to be added in over fourteen years. No wonder it looks so good! And it features areas like the Meadow and the Carapace. Ok, ok, ok. You got me. I’m totally ready to save the world now! Let’s head over to the Dungeons II page to learn more!

The Sift is coming to Minecraft

Minecraft LIVE revealed that the newest Minecraft dimension isn’t just finding its home in Dungeons II, it’ll also be coming to Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition next year. This will be the first new dimension in over 14 years – joining the Overworld, the Nether and the End as our fourth dimension. During the broadcast, you got a glimpse into this dimension in Minecraft – and even one of the mobs that calls it home. But surely that’s not enough! Luckily you can experience it for yourself in Minecraft Dungeons II – coming September 29, 2026.

Sound Effects Packs coming to Minecraft Marketplace

In my line of work, most of my craft is both solitary and silent. Until now! I know the sound effects that were presented in the show are technically coming to Minecraft Marketplace but I am bringing the spirit of these packs into my work, by the noises I’m making as I type. Why should honking, grunting, screaming, tooting, hooting, zoinking, zonking, and the rest of the cacophony be reserved only for your Overworld adventures? They should be heard from my cubicle that keeps getting moved closer and closer to the basement. I’ve added the sound effects pack to my wishlist and will be making them myself until they’re released. BOINK!

The Latest Game Drop features a new frozen biome and mob

Brrr! The very first look at the next game drop was very cool. Literally! We’re going underground into ice caves, a new cave biome like the dripstone, lush, and sulfur caves. They’re freezing, filled with ice, calcite blocks, and the new icicles and ice crystals. Icicles grow naturally on the ceiling, and the ice crystals grow on the ground and emit a soft light. Both add an ice-cold beauty to your builds. Basically, they’re the perfect place to build a defensive ice fort or store your extra gravel blocks in freezing temperatures. Keep ‘em crispy!

At the beginning of the show, Agnes  Larsson, Game Director, reminded us that the long-term vision for Minecraft has adventure as a main focus area. This new drop follows in that vein of aspirational challenges, especially thanks to the new frozen zombie variant! It doesn’t have a name yet (I don’t know why, I suggested Brrrombie and it’s perfect) but you can still start preparing mentally for your new icy arch nemesis. When it hits you, it doesn’t only deal damage but also a freezing effect. Some of them even throw ice balls, which really hurt and are really, really cold!

As a constantly sweaty person (I’m a writer, don’t look so surprised), I am very excited for this cold drop. I’m going to give that feedback to the developers, especially since their feedback site has gotten a glow-up! It’s easier than ever to share your thoughts, if you have any yourself head over to feedback.minecraft.net and tell us what you think!

The Deep Dig into the Sift and Ice Caves

Vu Bui had the arduous task of sitting down with a group of lovely creators and studio members in the after show. There was just so much to play this time! He explored the Meadows and The Sift in Minecraft Dungeons II with Klas, Laura, and Ph1lzA. Then he set off into the ice caves with Agnes, Katie, and FalseSymmetry where they encountered the frozen zombie variant and so many icicles. Too many? Not enough, I say!

Those were the main announcements from the show. But I would be remiss if I didn’t wish Minecraft Education a happy birthday on its 10th birthday, screamed congratulations to Nintendo Switch 2™ for getting Minecraft on October 27, and sent condolences to all the cushions that weren’t sat on by the community. Agnes showed us how cushions have been turned into a monorail, pillars, and ladders. Excuse me? Has creativity gone too far? Let’s put it to the test in our next community challenge! Technically it focuses on placing 50M straw beds and 200M cushions around the Overworld, but I have set a personal challenge to sit on them all. You place, I sit, and everybody wins.

That’s it for this Minecraft Live, stay tuned for more in-depth information and deep dives! If you’ve gotten this far, you’re expecting a quiz. I have never disappointed anyone in my entire life and I’m not about to start now! How many creeper anagrams are hidden in this text? What? I never specified if the quiz was about the show or the recap itself.  Good luck!
