Minecraft Dungeons Sequel Confirmed by Mojang
Recently, Mojang confirmed the development of a sequel to Minecraft's action RPG spin-off Minecraft Dungeons.
During Minecraft LIVE May 2026 at Twitchcon, Mojang announced the development of Minecraft Dungeons II.
What is Minecraft Dungeons?
Minecraft Dungeons is an action RPG (role-playing game) Minecraft spin-off game playable with up to four players. Players raid dungeons, collect gear, and save up emeralds to be used as currency until they ultimately reach the final boss of the main storyline.
Six DLCs were released for Minecraft Dungeons, offering new dungeons, story, and gear to interact with until the eventual end of development for the game in November 2022.
What Do We Know About Minecraft Dungeons II?
From the information given at Minecraft LIVE, we know that Minecraft Dungeons II will introduce new mechanics and a story centered on the Deep Dark biome.

Mechanics
- New armor system, allowing players to equip 4 pieces of armor at a time: helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots, rather than being limited to one piece at a time as it was in Dungeons I.
- Not Confirmed: Online matchmaking, a new system for finding other people to play with.
- Not Confirmed: Open world, an open world system for navigating between dungeons.
Story
- Deep Dark focused story, likely similar to the Pillager focused story in Dungeons I.
- New boss, the Twisted Warden, is described as a slow, heavy hitting boss who will be the final boss of the initial story.
The only information we currently have concerning a release date is some time in late 2026.
