Minecraft Live 2023 revealed several major features for the upcoming 1.21 update, including the new Trial Chamber structure, copper doors/grates/bulsts, trial spawners, the Breeze mob, and the Crafter automation block. The stream also confirmed the armadillo as the Mob Vote winner with 42.3% of the vote, although the result still drew skepticism from some players because unofficial polls had suggested a much closer race.
Minecraft Live 2023 streamed live today on Minecraft's official YouTube channel! New features for update 1.21 were announced, including the winner of the 2023 mob vote. After a showcase of creators around the world (and announcements of a Minecraft Legends update and a Star Wars DLC), they dived right into the planned content for 1.21 (whose name we still don't know):
There will be a new multi-room structure kind of like the stronghold: the Trial Chamber. It will have a lot of copper decoration in it - in fact, new copper variants will be added: the copper door, grate, and bulb. There will be a new kind of spawner - a 'trial spawner', which acts differently depending on how many players are near it (this update seems to have some focus on multiplayer collaboration). It will spawn, perhaps among others, the breeze - a mob that acts like and is visually similar to the blaze, though its attacks, unlike the blaze's, can destroy blocks.
There will also be a new automation block - the Crafter, which, when hit by a redstone signal, can automatically craft items (which was covered in leaks on Twitter a few months ago by a user called "Dan Geony").
Mojang reported a record number of voters in the 2023 mob vote - over 5 million - despite the large-scale boycott of the mob vote by people claiming Mojang was lazy and should add all three mobs. The winner of the mob vote was the armadillo, with 42.3% of the vote (the crab got 32.5% and the penguin got 25.5%). However, some people suspect that some form of fraud happened, as many unofficial polls showed a closer race than this (in fact, we have already identified at least one case of fraud).
