Minecraft Live - September 2026 Recap
シリアル-VMinecraft Live returned for its second show of 2026, revealing Minecraft's next game drop, The Sift dimension, new Minecraft Dungeons II details, Minecraft World theme park updates, and more.
The second Minecraft Live of 2026 took place on September 26, bringing announcements for Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons II, Minecraft World theme park, and more.
Among the announcements was the first look at Minecraft's next game drop, a new dimension known as The Sift, and more details on Minecraft Dungeons II ahead of its release.
The Next Game Drop
The next Minecraft game drop is taking players back underground with the introduction of ice caves, a new cave biome joining existing biomes such as lush, dripstone, and sulfur caves.
Ice caves generate with ice and calcite, along with two new features: icicles and ice crystals. Icicles generate from the ceilings of caves, while ice crystals grow from the ground and emit a small amount of light.
The biome is also home to a currently unnamed frozen zombie variant. Being hit by one applies a freezing effect to the player, while some variants are also capable of throwing ice balls.
The drop continues Mojang's longer-term focus on adventure, which Game Director Agnes Larsson discussed during the show.
The Sift
A new dimension known as The Sift is coming to both Minecraft: Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in 2027.
The Sift will become Minecraft's fourth dimension, joining the Overworld, Nether, and End. It will also be the first new dimension added to the main game in over 14 years.
Only a brief look at Minecraft's version of The Sift was shown during the broadcast, including one of the mobs that inhabits it.
The dimension will make its first appearance in Minecraft Dungeons II, where players can enter it through rifts found throughout the game's world.
Minecraft Dungeons II
Minecraft Live also gave another look at Minecraft Dungeons II, which releases on September 29.
Taking place after the defeat of the Arch-Illager and the Orb of Dominance, Dungeons II introduces a new crisis as Illagers form the Illager High Council.
One of the larger changes from the original Minecraft Dungeons is how players explore the world. Rather than progressing through individual level-based missions, Dungeons II features a more interconnected world.
Rifts can be encountered while exploring and can transport players into The Sift. Areas shown within the dimension include the Meadow and Carapace.
Dungeons II also introduces jumping, alongside new mobs, locations, and equipment.
Minecraft World
More information was shared about Minecraft World, a Minecraft theme park which is scheduled to open at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in London in 2027.
The attraction is being developed by Mojang Studios and Merlin Entertainments and will include the Minecraft World Hotel, featuring themed rooms, dining areas, and opportunities to encounter Minecraft mobs.
Also coming to the attraction is Escape the Nether, an indoor and outdoor rollercoaster described as the world's first Minecraft rollercoaster.
Minecraft World was previously announced during Minecraft Live earlier this year, with the September show providing another look at what visitors can expect when it opens.
Creator Platform
Mojang also discussed its plans for Minecraft's Creator Platform, with the goal of making it easier for more players to create and share content.
Chief Creative Officer Jens Bergenström explained that Mojang is working on improvements to the tools and systems used to create, manage, and share Minecraft content.
The changes are intended to lower some of the barriers players currently face when getting started with Minecraft content creation.
No release date was announced for these changes.
Sound Effects Packs
Sound Effects Packs are coming to the Minecraft Marketplace.
The packs will allow sounds to be used as part of Minecraft experiences, with several examples demonstrated during the show.
Mojang has not yet announced when Sound Effects Packs will become available.
Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2
Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 was also mentioned during the show ahead of its release on October 27.
The native Switch 2 version will support Vibrant Visuals and includes an updated version of the Super Mario Mash-Up.
Existing Minecraft players on Nintendo Switch will also have access to a digital upgrade path to the Switch 2 version.
Minecraft Education Turns 10
Minecraft Education is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2026.
Originally released in 2016, Minecraft Education has since been used as an education-focused version of the game for classroom lessons and other learning experiences.
Wilderness Bound Community Challenge
Following the release of Wilderness Bound, Mojang announced another community challenge involving two of the drop's additions.
Players have been challenged to collectively place 50 million straw beds and 200 million cushions throughout Minecraft.
The Deep Dig
Following the main Minecraft Live broadcast was The Deep Dig, where Mojang developers and creators took a closer look at some of the announcements from the show.
The first portion featured Minecraft Dungeons II, with gameplay from the Meadows and The Sift.
The second returned to Minecraft's upcoming ice caves, providing another look at the biome, icicles, and the new frozen zombie variant in-game.
The September Minecraft Live provided the first look at Minecraft's final game drop of 2026 while also revealing some of what Mojang has planned beyond this year.
Minecraft Dungeons II releases on September 29, followed by Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27. Further ahead, both The Sift and Minecraft World are planned for 2027.
