Mounts of Mayhem: Aquatic Challenge

Published: November 7, 2025 - View official source

Welcome back from the winner’s circle! If you missed last week’s epic clash, then let me fill you in. In the run-up to the launch of our Mounts of Mayhem drop we’re indulging in a little mayhem of our own. An all-out champion’s challenge, with a different competitor facing off against a different foe each week!

Are you ready to dive into our second arena? Me and my famous belly-flop sure are, because today we’re venturing underwater. The crowd has gathered on the shore, catching some sun and admiring the baby turtles. This calm beach day is about to take a turn, because our aquatic antagonist is swimming steadily beneath the placid water. And here comes our hero, bounding up to the water’s edge!

CHALLENGER: ROUND 2

  • NAME: Julius “Herculius” Olofsson
  • OCCUPATION: Scribe & swimmer
  • Strengths: Lungs of steel, potion brewing
  • Weaknesses: Lungs are only figuratively of steel
  • Survivability rating: 3/5

With a swig of Water Breathing potion and a smile, they dive into the deep. Let’s follow!

SPLASH!

Our hero is swimming around, cool as a sea cucumber, but where is our antagonist? They were just here a moment ago, I know it. Don’t look at me, hero!

Underwater ruins built from mossy stone bricks with a glowing sea lantern at the top. A Minecraft character in red and green gear stands on the structure holding a sword, surrounded by rising air bubbles in the deep blue ocean.

For once, I am merely an innocent bystander and I will neither stand or swim for the accu-AAAH! What was that? Did you feel that? Something touched my leg!

There it is again! Gah, this seagrass is everywhere! It’s going to take me ages to get it out of my hair. That’s it, I quit! I’m a rootin’, tootin’ Pulitzer-prize-winning Wikipedia entry reader! Maybe that zombie nautilus can give me a ride to the surface.

Wait, the zombie whatalus?!

A nautilus in the ocean, its spiked body covered in mossy patterns and glowing blue eye.

It seems that the challenge seems to have begun whilst I was detangling myself. Rude! They’re both getting the lecture of a lifetime after this match. And reader, let me tell you that it is going to be a hard one to call.

The zombie nautilus, while passive on its own, is charging at a ferocious pace thanks to the trident-wielding drowned mounted on it! Our hero is doing their best, using a spear to go toe to toe with… whatever it is at the end the nautilus. Shell? Sure.

A Minecraft Drowned mob stands on a nautilus underwater, gripping a trident. In the foreground, a pixelated spear is held, aimed toward the mob amid the deep blue ocean terrain.

Oh no, our hero seems to be struggling. The Water Breathing potion has run out! We are deep in the ocean, and that drowned is showing no signs of slowing down. Our hero’s best bet is to find an air pocket somewhere or just give up. I know what I’d do!

Our hero is swimming erratically, panic setting in! And great, here comes another school of nautiluses – although thankfully not the zombie kind.

Several Minecraft nautilus-like mobs with striped shells and tentacle-like limbs swim through a deep blue ocean, surrounded by sea plants and bubbles.

The hero seems to be drawn to them, obviously a fellow fashionista. They’re offering a nautilus a pufferfish, in what I assume is a couture custom. Oh wait, they’re taming it. That’s neat too!

They mount one of the nautiluses, and to my shock, awe, and emerald-green envy they seem to have an instant connection! Excuse me?! The nautilus is my favorite new mob from Mounts of Mayhem! I SHOULD BE ITS FRIEND!

Inspired by my appropriate tantrum, our hero has gotten a second wind along with their second breath! They’re speeding towards the zombie nautilus, spear at the ready. The spiky suspense! It’s too much! I can’t look!

What happened? How did I end up back on the beach? I don’t need to question why the audience is cheering, because I’m here. But the hero seems to be trying to steal all my thunder, pointing their new trident to the sky. Fine! Soak it up, hero! You can all hang out here at your victory beach party.  I’m going to find that nautilus, we’ve got some sulking and swimming to do. I’ll see you all soon for more mounts, more mayhem, and challenges soon!
