New on Java Realms: Sabine's takeover
Published: May 29, 2026 - View official source
You may be wondering who I am and where our usual Java Realms expert, Oskar Thysell, went. I may have told him there’s cake in the kitchen and considering we have more than one kitchen here at the Mojang office, I should have enough time to hijack this series and introduce myself before he comes back.
My name is Sabine, and I recently joined as a Content Moderator for the Java Content Creator Program. It’s really nice to meet you all, and I’m super honored to be here.
I’ve been playing video games since 1997 (which may or may not be outing me as a millennial), and I’ve known ever since then that the gaming industry was where I wanted to be. However, it wasn’t until a couple of years back that I finally decided to pursue that dream for real, and long story short, that journey has now led me to Mojang Studios.
But enough about me! Let’s get into this month’s maps before Oskar realizes what I’m up to.
How do I play the new Java Realms maps?
Boot up Minecraft on your device of choice, then find Minecraft Realms in the main menu. Press the “Configure” button, then choose the “Reset World” option on the Realm slot you’re ok with overwriting (or use the “Minigame” slot for minigames). Now you can pick the map you want to play from the corresponding categories!
ADVENTURE: THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT
by coffeecurley, Vakten, & DunoSpelar
What would you do if you could bend time and space? Go back an hour or two instead of snoozing your alarm in the morning? Or maybe turn back time so you can enjoy your slice of cake all over again?
You could also use that ability to solve puzzles that lead your way through an ancient temple, just like in The Butterfly Effect. This map challenges how you think about time itself, with a unique mechanic that lets you move back and forth through moments - changing stones, water, saplings, and more as you figure out your way forward.
I know I would use it to go back to that one time when our local barista said, “Enjoy your coffee” and I replied with “You too” ... I haven’t been back since.
INSPIRATION: MECHANICAL MAYHEM
by IKTeam
If you ever want to share your cake with everybody on this map, make sure to bring one big enough!
Mechanical Mayhem is filled with industrial structures, impressive details and a giant robot so huge that it makes you feel super tiny, in the best possible way.
While exploring this mechanical wonder, don't forget to visit the hard-working slimes roaming around the base.
MINIGAME: SPELLING BEE
by zedfffffffffffff, mettrecube, & Meekanographie
Did you know that top competitors in spelling bee competitions often spend years studying not just how to spell words, but also how those words are built? I’ve never been to a spelling bee competition before, but if I ever wanted to train for one, I would start with this map.
In Spelling Bee, you can play against your friends and see who the ultimate spelling champion is. And if you think that might be a little too easy, you can always add modifiers like instant death, spelling words backwards, or spelling words blindly. Spell correctly and avoid being laughed at by the entire audience. I spelled Cake wrong... It stung a little bit, not gonna lie.

SHH, I HEAR OSKAR COMING
Before I leave, if you want to learn how to load this content into Java Realms by visiting the help site. If you haven't yet tried Realms for yourself, you'll have a blue diamond on the Minecraft Realms button, located on the main screen of Minecraft: Java Edition. Click that diamond, then follow the instructions to try Realms free for 30 days.
Want to have your own Minecraft creations featured on Java Realms and on Minecraft.net? Head over to the Java Realms Content Creator Program page. If you have questions about this process, you can find me at Bine Birk on X. You are also welcome to contact Oskar Thysell on X.
Okay, gotta go, he's back. If Oskar asks, you saw nothing!
