New on Java Realms: Terrible Advice for Natural Disasters

Published: June 27, 2025 - View official source

Avalanches, eruptions, and tectonic plate swings – these are a few of my least favorite things. Unless it's used as silly Minecraft game mechanics, because then they're the best things! In today’s release, our mapmakers have made several maps that will present scenarios to help you out if you are faced with one!

How do I play the new Java Realms maps?

Start up Minecraft on your device, then find Minecraft Realms in the menu. Press the “Configure” button, choose the “Reset World” option on the Realm slot you’re ok with overwriting (or use the “Minigame” slot for minigames). Now you can pick the map you want to play from the corresponding categories!

ADVENTURE: PARKOUR VOLCANO

by Hielke

A Minecraft screenshot of a floating island in the sky, with an active volcano on it.

Volcanic eruptions can be troublesome, however, one thing to keep in mind is that lava moves very slowly. I can back it up with my theoretical degree in physics. So, if you’re escaping the lava flow, this is an excellent time to earn some style points – if a lava pillar is obstructing your way, why not try a neo jump around it? Parkour Volcano is the perfect map for you to try out cool acrobatics to impress your friends if the situation ever comes!

(EDITOR’S NOTE: Don’t try this at home, kids. Here’s some volcano preparedness resources in case the above is relevant to you)

MINIGAME: SANDSTORM

by MrAdrien79,Tagazok_, & Oayoo

Sandstorms or dust storms happen when strong winds put dirt and sand in regulation, which can be hazardous to one’s health and agriculture. Overall, they’re awful, unless they’re performed by Darude. I would propose a solution to this – throwing Gravity Bombs at the sand to clear it right up, which is totally doable! You can also use the Magic Builder that will place sandstone blocks at your feet wherever you go, which opens up the perfect opportunity to play a game of capture the flag! Trust me, I saw all this work in the minigame, Sandstorm

(EDITOR’S NOTE: No. Stay inside or take shelter and try to cover up as much of your body as possible, and avoid getting sand in your nose and mouth)

ADVENTURE: LIGHTBOX 2

by Technodono & FingerMaps

A Minecraft screenshot, depicting a corridor with a bunch of blocks in it.

A solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, which can cause the entirety of the sun to be obscured. However, this is just regulated to a relatively small area on the Earth, in regard to the position of all three celestial bodies. This is the clue to the long-awaited sequel Lightbox 2 – this puzzler will require you to have everything in its correct position if you want to channel the photons to their proper placement! Required playing if you want to survive the next solar eclipse!

(EDITOR’S NOTE: Um, so I'm not sure what Oskar is on about – eclipses aren’t intrinsically harmful per se as long as you don’t look directly into the sun. Maybe just don’t plan a picnic during one?)
