New on Java Realms: Survival: The Remix

Published: April 25, 2025 - View official source

Here’s a thought experiment: do you remember how it looked when you logged into your first Survival world? Do you remember your first building or what biome it was? Only fond memories of... say searching for a punchable tree, getting your dirt hut in order, and most likely getting blown up by a stray Creeper. If you thought this makes you a Survival expert, then think again! Java Realms has 14 new maps which will give this tried-and-true game-mode a new makeover!

How do I play the new Java Realms maps?

Start up Minecraft on your device, then find Minecraft Realms in the menu. Press the “Configure” button, choose the “Reset World” option on the Realm slot you’re ok with overwriting (or use the “Mini game” slot for mini games). Now you can pick the map you want to play from the corresponding categories!

MINI GAME: UHC EVOLVED

Ultimate Hardcore – a twist on Survival almost as old as Minecraft itself (Source: the trailer above). Just as in regular hardcore you only have one life, but now there’s also no natural health regeneration! “How hard could it be?” I told myself while giving the ‘terms and conditions’ scroll of the UHC tutorial on the wiki before loading up UHC Evolved. Pretty hard it turns out, but with the tons of customization options for this map making it truly the one UHC map you’ll ever need (patent pending), even someone like me who’d at best be ‘Somewhat Hardcore’ on a good day has a shot of emerging victorious!

MINI GAME: ADVANCEMENT HUNTERS

One thing about me is that I’m a purely advancement driven person. Believe me, if there was an achievement to recreate the entire Sistine Chapel fresco by Michelangelo in Minecraft, I’d have that done in a jiffy, but without that sweet, rectangular text box compelling me, you’ll just have to do without. Advancement Hunters is a mini game tailor made for me, where you play survival and gain points by completing vanilla advancements, which I always thought was the point of Minecraft anyway!

MINI GAME: BATTLE BLITZ

Lastly, if there’s one way to get out of a Survival-induced funk, one could take a short break to participate in some real survival – and Battle Blitz will definitely have that up for questioning! Ten classes, ten powerups, and six maps - some that even introduce special events at the halftime point to shake things up. If all the adrenaline you’ll get from this fast-paced mini game causes you to yearn to crank out another dirt hut, there’s no shame in that!
