Bedrock Preview 26.70.20

View official source

Minecraft Bedrock Beta & Preview 26.70.20 is the first testing build for 26.70, released on October 13, 2026. This build brings the Fourth Drop 2026 features into regular gameplay, removing their experiment toggle. It adds Brittle Ice and crevasses in Ice Caves, introduces Jukebox playlists and a new Jukebox texture, and adds a separate experiment for Nether spawning. It also introduces Marketplace gifting, expands creator APIs, and includes various gameplay, Realms, and performance fixes.

Additions

World Generation

Biome Sprite - Ice Caves Ice Caves

  • Added crevasses throughout the Ice Cave biome, with Brittle Ice covering their surface openings and pools of water at their base.

Blocks

Brittle Ice - Normal Brittle Ice

  • Added Brittle Ice, a fragile ice block that cracks when players or most mobs stand on it.
  • Breaks after three crack stages and does not melt. Standing on it for too long or jumping on it can cause it to break.
  • Requires Silk Touch to obtain.
  • Frostbites can stand on it without causing it to crack.
  • Generates naturally and can form when water flows next to Blue Ice.
  • Releases small ice particles during its first cracking stage and when it breaks.
  • Emits a Block Change vibration when its crack level increases and a Block Destroy vibration when it breaks at the maximum crack level.

Jukebox_V2 Jukebox Playlists

  • Placing a single Chest, Trapped Chest, or any Copper Chest variant directly above a Jukebox allows its Music Discs to be played as a playlist.
  • Discs play in chest slot order, skipping empty slots and non-disc items, then looping back to the beginning.
  • When a disc finishes, the Jukebox exchanges it for the next disc in the chest.
  • If the chest contains no Music Discs, the disc already in the Jukebox plays again.
  • Ejecting the currently playing disc skips to the next available disc.
  • Texture updated from Jukebox

General

Marketplace

  • Players can now purchase Marketplace content as gifts for friends.

Accessibility

  • Added Marketplace store row names to text-to-speech narration.
  • Added generic closed captions for jumping and landing.

Technical

Block Components

  • Added minecraft:jukebox_playlist_source to mark a compatible single-container block as a source of Music Discs for a Jukebox directly below it.

Entity Components

  • Added minecraft:can_stand_on_brittle_ice, which allows an entity to stand on Brittle Ice without breaking it:
{
  "minecraft:can_stand_on_brittle_ice": {}
}

Features

  • Added the internal-only minecraft:crevasse_feature, which carves winding, tapered crevasses into exposed terrain. It is not currently available for creator content.
    • Crevasses follow the terrain surface, extend in both directions from their placement point, and require a minimum connected footprint before carving.
    • max_length: Maximum end-to-end length, 4–16 blocks; default 16.
    • max_width: Maximum cross-section width, 2–8 blocks; default 4.
    • min_footprint: Minimum connected horizontal footprint, 1–32 blocks; default 10.
    • twistiness: Horizontal curvature, 0.0–16.0; default 4.0.
    • carve_depth: Depth range below the original terrain surface, 4–32 blocks; default [6, 10].
    • fill_depth: Fill-depth range, 0–32 blocks; default [4, 6].
    • surface_block: Optional block placed over the crevasse opening; omitted by default.
    • fill_block: Optional block placed at or below the chosen fill depth; omitted by default.
    • Example configuration (illustrative; this feature remains internal-only):
{
  "format_version": "1.26.50",
  "minecraft:crevasse_feature": {
    "identifier": "example:ice_crevasse_feature",

Commands

  • Released support for defining point-of-interest (POI) types with hierarchical tags in behavior packs.
  • Released /locate poi to locate registered points by type or tag.

Blocks

  • Added a Keep Structure Void option to Structure Blocks. When manually loading structures, empty non-Air blocks are loaded as Structure Voids.

Changes

Blocks

Icicle Icicle

  • Ice Crystals now render at the intended size.

Mobs

Zombified Piglins

  • Unarmed Piglins and Piglin Brutes now remain unarmed when converting into Zombified Piglins.

Frostbite Frostbite

  • Frostbites can now pick up and use Spears, but do not perform the charge attack.
  • Frostbites can stand on Brittle Ice without breaking it.

Items

Arrow of Freezing Arrow of Freezing

  • Updated the Arrow of Freezing texture to match the other Tipped Arrow icons.

Sounds

  • Added the convert_to_frostbite sound event when a Zombie converts into a Frostbite.
  • Added the convert_to_zombie sound event when a Frostbite converts into a Zombie.

General

Accessibility

  • Screen narration now reads slider values as displayed.
  • Chat instructions on join now displays supported instructions in single-player worlds, including when gameplay tips are enabled. Disabling the setting still allows contextual multiplayer tips.

Blocks

  • Players can light Candles with ignition items held in the main hand while sneaking.
  • Frosted Ice now emits a Block Change vibration whenever its crack level increases and a Block Destroy vibration when it breaks at its maximum crack level.

Character Creator

  • Entering the character editing screen now focuses a skin or offer by default.

Realms

  • The Learn More button on the new Realms information screen disappears after the player selects it for the first time.
  • The Realms Hub Learn More section now links to Realms tutorials, either through a button or a QR code.

User Interface

  • Renamed the Block Light Quality options to Low, Medium, High, and Ultra without changing their functionality.
  • The updated main menu now labels its play button Play Preview in Preview and Play Beta in Beta.
  • Version numbers on the updated main menu now include the 1. prefix.
  • Preview versions in the Editor main menu now carry a Preview suffix.
  • Restored the Get Started screen with Ore UI.
  • Added responsive Marketplace store rows for browsing content cards.
  • Marketplace offers incompatible with a player's device remain visible, but their purchase buttons are disabled.
  • The console Inbox Feedback tab now directs players to feedback.minecraft.net.
  • Bopomofo and Bopomofo Extended characters now use consistent full-width spacing alongside Chinese text.

Stability and Performance

  • Windows resource-pack downloads are now stored as blobs to reduce partial deletion of cached content by Windows Disk Management.
  • Improved memory allocation performance on Android.

Technical

API

  • Container.setItem and ContainerSlot.setItem now clamp item stack sizes to each item's maximum stack size.
  • Script API string arguments now preserve embedded NUL (\0) characters instead of truncating the string.
  • Exceptions thrown inside event callbacks now include additional error context and revised newline and whitespace formatting in the stack trace.

Block Components

  • Doors: The upper half of a Door now reports the same open_bit state as the lower half. The correction applies to newly placed, structure-generated, and existing Doors, with existing chunks corrected when loaded.
  • Repeaters: Repeater blocks now expose a locked block state when a powered Repeater or Comparator feeds either side input.
    • In new worlds with base game version 1.26.60 or later, changes to the locked state trigger neighbor block updates for parity with Java Edition. Existing worlds retain the previous client-only behavior.
  • Scaffolding: Scaffolding now exposes a bottom block state when the block below is not another Scaffolding block and provides no support.
    • In new worlds with base game version 1.26.60 or later, changes to this state trigger neighbor block updates for parity with Java Edition. Existing worlds retain the previous client-only behavior.

Entity Components

  • minecraft:transformation now preserves empty equipment slots when preserve_equipment is true.
  • Entity definition parsing is stricter for format versions 1.26.60 and later. Invalid data now prevents the entity JSON from loading in these components:
    • minecraft:annotation.break_door
    • minecraft:attack — damage must be a scalar or an object with min and max; array values are no longer valid.
    • minecraft:inventory
    • minecraft:spell_effects

Packs

  • Development packs can no longer override system packs with the same identity.

User Interface

  • Downloading Marketplace content no longer deletes development resource, behavior, or skin packs that use matching UUIDs.
  • Invalid JSON UI data in resource packs is now reported as a content log error. This includes unresolved control names, invalid anchors, unknown control types, unsolvable layouts, malformed binding expressions, and view-binding loops.
  • Route transitions now use animation selectors through createRouteTransition. Transition animations can depend on the source and destination navigation routes instead of requiring a custom transition component.
  • Route transitions now use the standalone @mojang/react-route-transition package, and screen animation settings use @mojang/react-screen-animation. Both can be used without depending on @mojang/ui.

Editor

  • Added filter icon tooltips to the Editor List View control.
  • Added group sorting, configurable dynamic height, and a noMargins style to the IListPanePropertyItem API.

Experimental

The following features require Nether Spawning Rebalancing, Beta APIs, Upcoming Creator Features, or RenderDragon Features for Creators, as applicable. The Drop 4 of 2026 toggle has been removed; its features are available in regular gameplay in this build.

Mobs

Nether Spawning

  • Added the Nether Spawning Rebalancing experiment. It reduces mob density and adjusts Nether Fortress spawning to more closely match Java Edition (MCPE-65762).

Technical

API

  • Updated beta ScriptPlayer.playMusic and ScriptWorld.playMusic:
    • Both methods return a SoundInstance when MusicOptions.fade is zero or omitted.
    • Both return undefined when MusicOptions.fade is greater than zero.
    • Both accept a SoundDefinition in trackId.
  • Added beta BlockInventoryComponent support for minecraft:chiseled_bookshelf.
  • Added the beta ItemBlockEntityStorageComponent to item stacks.
    • Exposes store, release, transfer, getEntities, and size, corresponding to the methods of BlockEntityStorageComponent.
    • release also requires a position specifying where the entity is released.
    • Item stacks produced by a successful carry_over_block_entity_data loot function can have their stored entities prepopulated.
    • Placing a compatible item stack into the world transfers stored entities to the newly placed block, provided that block supports entity storage.
  • Added the read-only beta CarryOverBlockEntityDataFunction.entityStorage property to indicate whether a loot function carries entities from a block entity into its dropped item.

Blocks

  • Added the optional Boolean entity_storage field to the carry_over_block_entity_data loot function. It defaults to false and requires Upcoming Creator Features.
    • When true, stored entities are copied into the dropped item without being released, independently of the dynamic_properties option.
    • Placing that item restores its stored entities to compatible blocks without releasing them.
  • Split BlockComponentNamedTickEvent.isName into name and isMine.
    • name contains the name passed to ScriptBlock.scheduleNamedTick.
    • isMine() reports whether the current pack scheduled the event.
  • Updated the Block API for named ticks:
    • getScheduledNamedTickCount returns the number of named events scheduled at a position, regardless of pack origin.
    • getAllScheduledNamedTicks returns the events scheduled at that position by the current pack.
    • Renamed removeScheduledNamedTick to removeScheduledNamedTicks.

minecraft:block_entity

  • Added the optional Boolean show_ui_on_interaction to containers for block format versions 1.26.20 and later when Upcoming Creator Features is enabled; defaults to true.
    • When false, the built-in container interface does not open, and standard block interaction events, including registered onPlayerInteract callbacks, can run instead.
    • When true or omitted, the container interface opens and those callbacks do not run.
    • Custom containers now follow Chest interaction permissions, blocking access and interaction callbacks when the player lacks permission.
    • Custom containers are recognized as interactive blocks, preventing duplicate client-side uses of held items.
    • The HUD displays the Open interaction hint for custom containers only when their interface is enabled.

Entity Components

  • Added experimental minecraft:time_marker_sensor for entity definitions using the beta format version. It fires an entity event when a named time marker is reached on a named World Clock.

Features

  • POI type definitions now follow behavior pack stacking priority. Higher-priority packs can override definitions from lower-priority packs.

Graphics

  • Under RenderDragon Features for Creators, Ice Crystals now emit light-blue colored light.

Entity API

  • Added beta Script API support for positioning entities as passengers of blocks:
    • Entity.startPassengerOfBlock(blockPosition, offset, rotation, rotationLimit, emote) places an entity as a passenger of a block using the supplied offset, rotation, rotation limit, and PassengerOfBlockEmoteType (Standing, Riding, or Laying).
    • Entity.stopPassengerOfBlock() stops an entity from being a passenger of a block.
    • The read-only Entity.isPassengerOfBlock property reports whether the entity is a passenger of a block.
    • Destroying or changing the block does not automatically remove its passenger. Scripts must call stopPassengerOfBlock().
    • query.is_riding returns true for entities riding a vehicle or riding a block in the Riding pose.
    • Added query.is_laying, which returns true for block passengers in the Laying pose.
    • When isPassengerOfBlock is true but both queries are false, the entity is in the Standing pose for animation.
