World of Color Update
World of Color Update refreshed Minecraft’s colors and introduced new decorative blocks. It released for Java Edition 1.12 on June 7, 2017.
Blocks and Building
Concrete and Glazed Terracotta
Concrete
Glazed Terracotta
The refreshed color palette introduced Concrete Powder, which hardens into Concrete when it meets water. Concrete supplies strong, solid colors for walls, sculptures, and detailed builds.
Glazed Terracotta adds patterned surfaces with directional placement, allowing builders to arrange larger repeating designs. Both block families use the full 16-color palette.
Colored Beds
Beds expanded beyond the original red appearance to all dye colors. Updated Wool colors and the new block families made interiors and large colorful builds more varied.
Mobs
Parrots
Parrots introduced a tameable Jungle companion that can imitate mob sounds and perch on a player’s shoulder. Their several color variants added another small, distinctive animal to the biome.
Illusioner
The Illusioner was added for command-based use. It does not spawn naturally in ordinary Survival, so it belongs to the update’s creator-facing additions rather than a normal exploration encounter.
Crafting and Progression
Recipe Book
The Recipe Book made available recipes easier to browse and use. Players could discover recipes and find matching ingredients without remembering every crafting arrangement.
Advancements
Advancements replaced Achievements with a more flexible progression system. Custom advancement definitions gave mapmakers additional ways to respond to player actions and guide a designed experience.
Creator Tools
Knowledge Books provided a way to unlock recipes in custom maps. Alongside Advancements and expanded data-driven customization, they made the update useful for creators as well as builders.
