Bats and Pots
Bats and Pots brought a fresh look to bats and a practical use for decorated pots. Released on December 5, 2023, it arrived as Java Edition 1.20.3 and Bedrock Edition 1.20.50, expanding on Trails & Tales with a smaller set of focused changes.
Mobs
Redesigned Bats
Bat
Bats received a new model, texture, and animation set. Their larger ears, distinct wings, and revised movement give caves a more recognizable resident.
Blocks and Storage
Decorated Pots
Decorated Pot
Pots gained a purpose beyond displaying pottery sherds: each one can store one stack of a single item type. Use an item on a pot to insert it; there is no inventory screen.
- Inserting items makes the pot wobble and produces a vibration with a frequency of 11.
- Hoppers, Hopper Minecarts, and Droppers can move items into pots. Hopper systems can also extract them.
- Redstone Comparators measure how full a pot is, allowing it to become part of a storage or redstone build.
- Players retrieve the contents by breaking the pot. Projectiles can shatter it and release the stored items.
- Empty Decorated Pots stack to 64 and have new sounds for breaking, shattering, and being stepped on.
Development and Naming
Bats and Pots followed Trails & Tales as a focused update to existing features. It was described as a game drop retrospectively, after Armored Paws, rather than being introduced with that label at launch.
