Trails & Tales
Trails & Tales focused on exploration, expression, and the stories players build around their worlds. It arrived as Java Edition 1.20 and Bedrock Edition 1.20.0, on June 7, 2023.
World Generation
Cherry Groves and Trail Ruins
Cherry Groves introduced pink-canopied trees and Pink Petals to mountain-adjacent landscapes. Trail Ruins added partly buried structures that reward patient excavation rather than a quick chest search.
Archaeology and Items
Brush and Pottery
Brush
Use a Brush on Suspicious Sand or Suspicious Gravel to uncover hidden items. Archaeology appears in selected ruins and structures, with Trail Ruins offering a larger excavation site.
Pottery Sherds display different designs on Decorated Pots. Ordinary Bricks can fill undecorated sides, allowing collected patterns to become part of a build.
Armor Trims
Smithing Templates let players apply decorative Armor Trims with different patterns and material colors. Templates are found in structures and can be duplicated with Diamonds and a matching block.
The Netherite Upgrade Template also became necessary for upgrading Diamond equipment, changing the progression introduced in the Nether Update.
Mobs
Camel
Camels carry two riders and use a dash to cross gaps. Their height changes how riders encounter some ground-based hostile mobs.
Sniffer
Sniffer Eggs can be found through archaeology in Warm Ocean Ruins. A hatched Sniffer grows into a mob that digs up ancient Torchflower Seeds and Pitcher Pods, providing decorative plants unavailable through ordinary seed gathering.
Blocks and Building
- Cherry adds a complete wood set.
- Bamboo becomes a construction material with Planks, Mosaic blocks, and Rafts.
- Hanging Signs create suspended displays, while Signs gain more flexible text editing.
- Chiseled Bookshelves store Books and interact with redstone.
- Calibrated Sculk Sensors filter vibrations for more precise mechanisms.
- Piglin Heads add a collectible mob head and Note Block sound interaction.
