Chaos Cubed
Chaos Cubed gives Minecraft’s underground a new kind of energy. Explore the yellow and red bands of Sulfur Caves, experiment with geysers, and meet the Sulfur Cube—a mob whose movement changes with the block it absorbs. New building sets and music round out the second game drop of 2026.
Released on June 16, 2026, the drop arrived in Java Edition 26.2 and Bedrock Edition 26.30.
World Generation
Sulfur Caves
- An underground biome with bands of Sulfur and Cinnabar, pools of water, and clusters of Sulfur Spikes.
- Sulfur Cubes and Cave Spiders spawn here.
Sulfur Pool
- Pools contain Potent Sulfur beneath the water, creating bubbles and noxious gas at the surface.
Sulfur Spike Clusters
- Clusters of spikes decorate Sulfur blocks inside the caves.
Sulfur Spring
- Surface formations mark the presence of Sulfur Caves below.
- Contain Sulfur, Potent Sulfur, and Magma Blocks, bringing geysers above ground.
Blocks
Cinnabar and Sulfur

Potent Sulfur and Geysers
Potent Sulfur
- Crafted from 9 Sulfur blocks, or found in Sulfur Cave pools.
- Bubbles travel through up to 4 Water source blocks above it, producing a gas cloud at the surface.
- Creates a geyser when placed above Magma or Lava, with 1–4 Water source blocks above it.
- Magma produces intermittent eruptions; Lava produces a continuous eruption.
- Eruptions push entities upward.
Nausea
- The gas from submerged Potent Sulfur applies Nausea.
Sulfur Spikes
Sulfur Spike
- Hang as stalactites or stand upright as stalagmites. Multiple pieces form longer spikes.
- Opposing tips can join; crouching while placing keeps them separate.
- Hanging spikes can grow beneath Sulfur blocks and fall when their support is removed.
- Thrown Tridents break them. 4 Sulfur Spikes craft into 1 Sulfur block.
- Falling stalactites deal damage. Landing damage from upright spikes differs between Java and Bedrock Edition.
Mobs
Sulfur Cube
Sulfur Cube
- A passive mob found in Sulfur Caves, attracted to blocks it can absorb.
- Accepts a suitable block directly from a player or picks up a dropped block item.
- Splits into two smaller cubes when killed. Small cubes can be fed Slime Balls to grow.
- Large cubes can be transported in a Bucket.
Sulfur Cube with an Absorbed Block
- Absorbing a block stops the cube’s normal movement behavior and turns it into a physical object that can be pushed or struck.
- The block changes its bounce, weight, friction, and movement through liquids.
- Shears remove the block and restore its normal behavior.
Block Behaviors
| Absorbed material | What changes |
|---|---|
| Loose minerals and soil | A balanced, buoyant cube |
| Wood | Faster movement and a strong bounce |
| Stone | Slower movement with a strong bounce |
| Metal | Slower movement and little bounce |
| Organic blocks | Faster movement with little bounce |
| Wool | A light, buoyant cube with high air drag |
| Ice | Low friction and no bounce, allowing it to slide |
| Shroom blocks | Slower sliding with low friction |
| Soul Sand or Soul Soil | High resistance and very slow movement |
| Honeycomb Block | Very high ground friction and a sticky feel |
| TNT | An explosive cube that can be ignited |
| Magma Block | Damages entities on contact |
- Java Dispensers can insert or swap blocks, shear out a held block, or release a bucketed cube.
- In Java Edition, cubes can ride Minecarts but cannot enter Boats.
- Primed TNT cannot be sheared out or transported in a Bucket. An exploding cube does not split into smaller cubes.
Items and Music
Sulfur Cube Spawn Egg
- Spawns a Sulfur Cube.
Bucket of Sulfur Cube
- Carries a captured large Sulfur Cube and releases it when used.
