Chase the Skies
Chase the Skies opened up a new way to travel above the Overworld. The game drop released on June 17, 2025 as Java Edition 1.21.6 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.90.
Mobs
Dried Ghast and Ghastling
Dried Ghast
Find Dried Ghasts near Nether Fossils in Soul Sand Valleys, obtain them through Piglin bartering, or craft one with Soul Sand and eight Ghast Tears. Place the block in water to hydrate it through several stages until it becomes a Ghastling.
The young mob follows nearby friendly creatures and players. Feed it Snowballs to accelerate its growth into a Happy Ghast.
Happy Ghast
Happy Ghast
Equip a Happy Ghast with a Harness to fly with up to four riders. The pilot directs the journey, while its broad back also provides a place to stand. Happy Ghasts slowly regenerate health, with quicker recovery in rain, snow, or at cloud level.
Harnesses are crafted from Leather, Glass, and Wool and come in all 16 Wool colors. Snowballs attract Happy Ghasts; an unequipped one is also attracted to a Harness.
Items and Travel
Leads and Saddles
Lead
Leads became more useful for moving groups of mobs or transporting a Boat through the air. Entities can be attached to other entities, and the snapping distance increased to 12 blocks.
- Lead recipes use five String, replacing the Slimeball ingredient.
- Saddles are craftable from three Leather and one Iron Ingot.
- Shears can cut Leads and remove eligible mount equipment when the mob has no rider.
- Carrots can be used to tame, heal, and grow Horses, Donkeys, and Mules.
Multiplayer
Locator Bar
The Locator Bar shows the direction of other players, helping groups reunite without constantly sharing coordinates. Height arrows indicate players significantly above or below the camera.
Sneaking, wearing a mob head or Carved Pumpkin, or using Invisibility hides a player’s indicator. Spectators are hidden, and operators can disable the feature with the locatorBar game rule.
Visuals and Music
Vibrant Visuals
Bedrock Edition introduced Vibrant Visuals on supported devices, adding directional lighting, precise shadows, water caustics, and atmospheric effects. Device support determines availability.
New Music
Amos Roddy contributed new background tracks and the Tears Music Disc. A Ghast drops Tears when killed with a player-deflected Fireball.
Lava Chicken and the Dennis painting arrived after the initial June 17 launch. Java 1.21.7 and Bedrock 1.21.93 added Lava Chicken; Dennis arrived in Java 1.21.7.
