Spring Release
Spring Release brought new animals, plants, and building materials to Education Edition. This Minecraft Education update released as 1.9, with its rollout dated March 21, 2019.
Mobs and Plants
Pandas and Cats
Panda
Pandas and stray Cats expanded Education’s animal roster. Bamboo gave Pandas a renewable food source, while the new mobs provided additional subjects for habitat builds and classroom activities.
Cornflowers and Lilies of the Valley joined the plant selection, adding decorative flowers and Dye sources.
Blocks and Building
Scaffolding
Scaffolding provided temporary access around large builds. It could be climbed and extended during construction, then removed when the project was finished.
Wood and Stone Variants
Wood-specific Signs and additional Stairs, Slabs, and Walls broadened the building palette. These additions let builders keep a material theme across more of a structure’s details.
Creator Tools
Additional Commands and Game Rules gave educators more control over world behavior. They could tailor an activity’s conditions while using the expanded construction and wildlife features.
Edition History
The Spring Release incorporated features from Bedrock 1.8 and 1.9 into Minecraft Education. It was an Education milestone rather than a separately named Java game drop, and it preceded the later Village & Pillage classroom release.
