GOAT Update

GOAT Update combined new exploration features with classroom sharing improvements. This Minecraft Education update released as 1.17.30, with its rollout dated November 2, 2021.

Mobs and World Generation

Nether Update Features

Education worlds gained the Nether Update feature set, including new Nether biomes, Piglins, Hoglins, Striders, and Netherite progression. The added landscapes and materials broadened exploration and themed classroom builds.

Caves & Cliffs: Part I

Goats, Axolotls, and Glow Squid arrived alongside Copper, Amethyst, Deepslate, and associated building and utility blocks. The name highlights Goats, but the release incorporates a much wider range of gameplay features.

The later terrain overhaul from Caves & Cliffs: Part II belongs to the following Mobile, Multiplayer & More update.

Classroom Tools

Photo Item

The Photo item connected captured images with Portfolios, Books, and Item Frames. Students could present a picture in a build or include it in a written record, giving screenshots a role inside the lesson rather than only outside the game.

Sharing and Player Appearance

The Friends Skin Pack supplied additional player appearances. Sharing through Microsoft Teams and Flipgrid helped groups connect their Minecraft activity with classroom communication.

Multiplayer

Support for up to 40 players expanded the size of a shared classroom session. The update paired those group-work improvements with substantial new world content.
